The University of Konstanz was founded in 1966 as a reform university characterised by cutting-edge research, excellence in teaching and studies, internationality and interdisciplinary cooperation. The University of Konstanz has been a University of Excellence since 2007. Idyllically located on the Gießberg outside the city centre, the University of Konstanz is a campus university with short distances, proximity to the lake and views of the countryside, the lake and the Alps.

Hot to get to the university
By bus
- Lines 9A and 9B (from the train station/several stops in the city centre) go to the ‘Universität’ stop directly on campus
- Lines 4/13 (from the ‘Stephansschule’ stop in the city centre) and 13/4 (from Mainau/Litzelstetten) go to the ‘Egg/Universität’ stop, approx. 5 minutes on foot to the campus
- Line 11 (from Staad/car ferry or from Wollmatingen station (Singen-Konstanz railway line)) goes to the ‘Universität’ stop directly on campus

By bike
- The university can be reached by bike from the city centre in 20-25 minutes on well-developed cycle paths and roads.
- Bicycles can be rented, for example, at the Kultur-Rädle (http://www.kultur-raedle.de/index.html#Radverleih) directly next to the main railway station.
